Tom Norlin, as a tribute to his nephew, Ryah Norlin, started the Ryan Norlin GIANT Pumpkin Weigh-Off in 1989.  They had enjoyed raising the GIANT pumpkins together until young Ryan lost his life in a boating accident.  Growers from all over the Midwest bring their GIANT pumpkins, watermelons, and long gourds to compete for more than $10,000 in prizes.  There are pumpkins grown by men and women of ALL ages, ugly pumpkins, pretty pumpkins and some big enough to compete for the coveted "World's Largest Pumpkin" title.

The huge gourds start coming in early Saturday morning and can be seen until 4pm, Saturday, at the Lawrence Community Center on Main Street.  The awards ceremony will take place at Noon, Saturday, October 1, 2016

Fun for the whole family is available - please visit our Calendar page on this website for further details on specific events!  Feel free to call the Anamosa Area Chamber of Commerce office at 319 462 4879.  Also, for more information on the Ryan Norlin GIANT Pumpkin Weigh-off, you can contact Greg Norlin, Site Coordinator, at 319 462 4674.
