Grant Wood Art Festival in transition.

The Grant Wood Art Festival has traveled between Anamosa and Stone City for 40 years. Last year, after much discussion, thought and in put, it was determined that the current venue and support base was not seeing growth . New life and breath are needed. With that thought in mind and expressed interest from the Stone City area, the festival is being transitioned to Stone City. It will most likely be a part of a larger festival in Stone City and it may take another year of planning . There will be major road construction in Stone City this spring, summer and fall that will also affect the ability of the group to host the event in 2013. When things are finalized, we will post that information.

Grant Wood

Grant Wood was born in February of 1891 in Anamosa, Iowa. During the summer of 1932, he established an art colony in Stone City, Iowa just 4 miles north of Anamosa. The aim of the original art colony was “…to join in working together toward the development of an indigenous expression. To this end, we do not strive for any particular formula or technique. We rather seek for a stimulating exchange of ideas, a cooperation of a variety of points of view.”
